The Private and Property Law department is one of the five Departments in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ilorin. The department, since its inception, has a research area covering areas of private and property laws. These areas of study provide cutting-edge research and teaching in the most burning issues in modern private and property law. The wide range of issues covered include but not limited to: questions of recognition and validity of customary laws, the comparative discourse on both customary and statutory marriages, protection of human dignity from both physical and physiological injury, acquisition and ownership of landed property, administration and execution of estates, succession and inheritance and also the art of legal drafting. The Department has also been a foremost hub of teaching and research in contemporary issues relating to acquisition of land, documentation of Will administration of estate and regulation of family affairs. Private and Property Law is essentially an aspect of law that deals with the relationship between persons and persons on the one hand and persons and government on the other hand. It also deals with different organs of government and institutions within a local government and a state as it relates to property and other issues incidental to the courses housed in the department. The Courses that are taught in the Department include, Introduction to Private and Property Law, Family Law, Customary Law, Law of Torts, Land Law, Law of Equity and Trust, Landlord and Tenant Law, Law of Succession and Legal Drafting
